Hi
[quote user="cv"]You're right of course - we want to preserve continuity. This is something Earl Geddes has suggested is easier to do with the newer generation of "pancake" drivers, if I remember rightly, as far as his waveguide design goes any...

Hi Chris, all
Yes, about 180Hz, which is why a friend of mine had new 120hz
driver flare rate throats fabricated for his 288Bs , for use with 120Hz horns.
Since most of the drivers out there are designed for PA , it pays to modify them for use i...

Hi
[quote user="Romy the Cat"]
Dose it means that the “ultimate horn profile” would be a profile that would be a DIRECT AND FLAWLESS CONTINUATION of the GIVEN SPECIFIC DRIVER?

Actually you can make a new driver throat to m...

Hi all
The WE 555 is IMHO an interesting driver, made for a very spesific use,
which is driving a "full-range" horn in the theatre.
As we all know, the wide range system with Jensen 18"woofers and Bostwick tweeter came later, at first the 555 an...

Hi all
The first link, to the musique_concrete website was because there's
pictures of some horns made for the S2 .
I hope anyone interested in JMLC horns read the last four links,
where Jean-Michell writes about his reasoning for his horn ...

JMLC made a spreadsheet based on his approach to designing horns,
with that spreadsheet you can design almost any kind of...

Hi Chris, all Allthough most of the work is done by the compression driver at 5 K , I would still use a proper horn, a horn that loaded the driver down to 2500Hz would be minimum IMHO. You can still use a Le Cléac'h horn if you wish. ;) cheers ;)...

Quick answer before I have to leave for the airport..........
Romy, I agree with you that horns is a better sounding solution,
for myself it's the only way to go.
But only if one have the room for real size midbasshorns.
A lot of people have t...

Hi all
Thanks for your thoughts, Romy.
In my view the least controversial of your “THE PROBLEMS WITH HORNS” cycle. Or, to put it another way, I agree with most of it.
I'm not so critical as you to open baffles for midbass, tho,
in fact I thin...

Hi
Good news if the analogue stages of the DCX2496 is so bad.
So the improvement of a modified unit should be worth the ekstra work,
and remove some of the x-overs negative influence on the sound.
Which is always good to know beforehand.

Hi all
The problem is of course how to do low bass properly.
A bass drum as heard in the orchestra,
( or let's say the way I hear a bass drum)
apart from the impact itself is this low rolling pressurewave that seems to ekspand from the bassdru...

Interesting topic. Anyone going the digital x-over route should keep in mind that if you just put a digital x-over into an existing system you are going to be disapointed, and I don't care what brand crossover you are using. You have to get the level...

I remember when hearing Mahlers 2nd. for the first time.
It was Bernsteins recording with LSO from 1974 (?)
Liner notes from Bruno Walter.
Anyways I was floored.
I got the record in a used record store, and it was very noisy, unfortunately.
That...

I have to think about this one, Romy.
I use frontloaded horns , and much prefer a controlled
horizontal coverage angle, fairly narrow in my case.
At least down to at least 250Hz , or so.
Below that the wavelengths get so long that most practic...

That is correct, my present setup doesn't speak much under 40Hz, or so.
And, they are not very directional down there...
But, I am working towards a gradual transition,
and I might even get halfway there, one day......

Hi all
Personally I'd like the tweeter to have the same dispersion as the rest of the speaker, and I really dislike wide dispersion speakers.
Depending on the room, I prefer less than 60 degrees, usually.

Hi all
I have experimented a bit with rear tubes on compression drivers.
Chucked the back covers in a lathe and made a suitable hole
for the rear tube, matching the area behind the diaphragm.
Got "better" results to my ears with wool filled tub...
